SuperSanta and the Clowns

I have just returned from Santa Land where the End of the World scenario was met with much merriment.  The above photo is from a scene in a play starring (of course) Santa, and a couple of elves in clown costume heedlessly playing with matches near our Globe while Santa tries to cool things off with an ice pak. Sparing you the political nuance I will say the photo was incorporated into my Christmas Card this year.

Incidentally, why can't I find a ringtone for my phone that plays, "The-uh fi-irst No-o-ël the-e aangels did say...")

To those who thought the world would end
TODAY
Don't hitch your star to every trend
TODAY
for that's the way to sorrow

TODAY or TOMORROW.

Points of Interest

This is the first time I have succeeded in keeping a store-bought pointsettia alive from one Christmas to the next.  This one lived happily without much care on my tiny northwest-facing balcony, completely changing it's character from bushy leaved grandeur to homespun friendly: less leaves, more but smaller flowers and a cheerful acceptance of my offhand ways.  Yay!

Poetry Again

I saw The Life of Pi in 3D and there was a scene that made me think of this poem I wrote in 1954 in San Diego:

The Bay

We swam in the bay
on one of the nights of the phosphorescence
stirring the cold fire around us
shaking the essence of prophets
in finger lightening
at the sky

And everywhere the frightened fish
appealed to comets
in the sign language of falling stars

Reentering the world
on finless feet we stood a while
in clammy underwear
watching the night taking shape
falling into place
around us

And suddenly we all got dressed
because the hungry light of human skin
cannot succumb to sorcery

*****

Now I would like to paint the poem!  (In those days there were flying fish seen off La Jolla Cove.)

Boulevard Art

Still trying to be Fauve-ish painting my friend Jean and her little pal Frida as they were one day a couple of years ago at an art sale in Mission Hills.

Me and Matisse

Trying to "paint like the Fauves" is a fun way to get loose.  Not sure I'm finished with this painting yet.  Changed the color of the chair cushion three times already.
