I'm taking a two day Art Quilt class from, guess who, Jane La Fazio. I am not a quilter. After struggling all weekend to produce this pinned collection of parental ephemera I have learned that knowing a bunch of techniques and loving fabric does not a quilter make. So I present an "assemblage" on cyberpaper relating to my mother's side of the family.
There are three generations in the top photo: my mother with her parents and maternal grandmother. The photo on the left and below are of my mother at different ages. The map is of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, where her maternal ancestors lived and the census records are from 1870 and 1850 showing their presence there. The crochet work is from my nimble fingered grandmother's bedspread and tablecloth - pictures transferred onto cloth. I painted the flowers: lilac for Nanny and Trailing Arbutus, known as Mayflowers, for Mummie. (No one in those days was called "Mom":o)
Next class: Quilting 101...
P.S. got some great suggestions at the second day class critique that, if I have time to implement, will solve my problems and make the quilt into art. Thanks, "Lovely Students"!

That's wonderful momi. Isn't quilting tricky? Half way through my class my brain went numb and shut down... teaching me I need to quilt without numbers these days.
I love my new purse, but when I look at it I don't remember making it. Ghost quilting? I'm not sure what 'channeling' I was on. But I thank those responsible for my new bag! Keep on quilting momi, I'll send my quilting ghost faires your way.

Very tricky! We deconstructed it in class today and I'm going a different/better more art-quilty way with it. Of course it will take wa-aa-aay longer!
