First Day of Summer

June 18, 2009 was the day I began this blog. My best artstuff has been posted.  If i could turn the blog upside down, I would.  Now it's time to create more, rest, or both.

Lately I've been doing more writing - a memoir of my childhood in New Hampshire including some history and genealogy, dedicated to my grandchildren whom I suspect will never read anything unless it's on Facebook.  I could be wrong.  We'll see.

There was a young girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good she was very, very good, and when she was bad - well, she was never bad, she was my Mother.

When in Greece...

 ... paint a watercolor.  This was done long ago from a trip to Greece and Turkey photo. Not doing much current work. Got interested in writing a memoir of my childhood in New Hampshire.  Next big art adventure will be classes in Idyllwild right after the Fourth of July where Jane La Fazio will be teaching a day of wet felting, among other things.  I'll be there for a week in a tiny cabin named Squirrel's Run, by a creek!

Long Ago and Far Away

This is a watercolor from a photo I took years ago (1998) in Thailand on a day tour to a Muslim fishing community built on stilts over open sea.  This angelic looking little girl was sitting in a doorway.  Photos were not prohibited, but after I took her picture and smiled - she stuck out her tongue at me!

The New Money!

Look what I got from my daughter (Nohonanimai.com) for Mothers' Day!  Obviously Jane La Fazio has gone into the banking business...or do you suppose Holle cleverly raided Jane's blog?  I won't tell.  Part of my next class is paid for!

Went sketching in a salvage yard in Berkeley.  Bet you can't guess what this ancient contraption on the left was used for...

You would have seen it next to you in the dentist's chair!  I showed it to my dentist and he said it reminded him of when he went to school.

Art Alive SDMA

Sketched at Art Alive today before we were so sweetly interrupted by a lovely woman museum attendant who informed us we need a 'sketching permit' and can only use pencil or crayon - no ink or watercolor brush, not even the water-containing brushes which need no spillable liquid.  Too bad.  No photos either, even without flash.  It's a hard life.

The Art Alive flower exhibit has some lovely pieces.  This one won second prize.  I had time to color in the background painting and my idea was to superimpose the flower arrangement in ink on the spot.  When things came to a halt I had to hastily pencil it in and failed to do it justice later at home, but the experience is recorded!

 This sketch is called that because it's where I was but it doesn't look like that! I got a little OCD on the buildings and couldn't stop until I ruined 'em.  You know how that goes...
