Attraction

Whatever the reason, the initial attraction of two people who will become Lovers says something about the Earth and the Sun.

Lure

What REALLY attracts you to a lover?  Some say this mystery is deeply buried in haunting memories of parental traits, boiling in Freudian oil.  Others say, "What's hot is hot!"

Blown

This is one of a series of small (10"x10") acrylic abstracts illustrating the progression of a relationship, the place where it gets all confusing and parts of it start blowing away.  Previously there is the Attraction, the Lure, the Trap, the Trajectory, the Passing (and eventually, the posting...)

This is it.  My "studio" is the glass top of my dining table. I share it with my MacBook, the occasional flower arrangement and food...

When I reframed the old photo in the previous post I found this underneath.  I remember I used to play with rearranging photos as expressive art.  Not sure what I was going for here, but something about the despair of animal extinction comes to mind.

Fun Things a la La Fazio

This is a monoprint using a gelatin mold as a printing plate. You make a stiff clear jello mixture and let it set up in a shallow pan; smear water-based printing ink or paint on it, make marks in the paint or lay down a stencil - I lightly pressed and removed some crinkled packing paper onto this one - lay your blank paper over it and press gently onto the painted surface. Lift the paper, and voila la La! Repeat similar moves with different colors. (This one has inspired me to do a "cocoon series".)

Next one: Make crayon rubbings on paper over anything: coins, corrugated cardboard, anything engraved or embossed with a design. Paint over that with watercolors.  I divided the space into blocks, but you can do it a variety of ways.

These are merely two techniques of many taught by Jane La Fazio in her Mixed Media with Paper and Cloth Classes.  Ooooh, la La!

Now for the best (?) part:  You tear these masterpieces up and make collage paper pieces out of them.  If I ever can bring myself to do that, the results will appear here.  (I have a phoenix-y sort of thing in mind...)

I'm proud of this one-foot piece - all done by fingers, no paintbrush!  It's not recent, but it's apropos!

Dragon Tale

I am finally finished with this one - mixed media collage. It looks all crisp and glossy in person, with a white mat and black frame, no glass.

Now I'll make up the story to go with it.

Sketch Toddle

Toddling at Liberty Station yesterday - visited the Quilt Visions show and the San Diego Watercolor Society show - then had coffee+ in the outdoor area by Von's where all sorts of lucious fruits, veggies and flowers are available for sketching while you sip.  Try it!
